Between Couples Therapy, Individual Therapy, & Group or Family Therapy, Amanda Best uses a variety of Systemic Therapeutic Approaches.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) & Attachment-Based Therapy

While working in either relational dynamics or individually, I implement an attachment lens with a focus on emotional literacy, emotional maturity, and strengthening connection. This means we will be working with your unique attachment history (yes that includes family history!), and identifying the variety of barriers that could be preventing you from leading with emotional connectedness or emotional maturity.

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)

Together we will explore parts work to identify the internal system that could be guiding your life. If you’re looking to resolve trauma, lessen triggers, or have more autonomy over “caretaking” parts “impulsive” parts, or just general managing parts, IFS is a great place to start. Through a slow and gentle start, we will explore these parts of you in a safe yet experiential way.

Relational Life Therapy (RLT)

RLT is a directive, experiential approach to couples therapy that is meant to be gentle yet challenging. Both clients will be held accountable for their role in the difficulties of the relationship. We will explore the various “stances” each client is stuck in that contribute to their relational difficulties. We will also use experiential inner child work with all partners present.

Other Modalities, Approaches, & Values.

As an LMFT-A who specializes in sex therapy, I tend to work with erotically marginalized folx who are in the LGTQIA+ community, non-monogamous community, and the kink community. Keeping cultural humility as a top priority, I work from an anti-racist lens with a focus on intergenerational and transgenerational trauma. I am consistently critical of most therapy theories due to their origins in white cis-hetero patriarchy and have worked hard to ensure these theories are altered to best support my clients. Using modalities like narrative, allow me to highlight systems of oppression that could be contributing to mental health issues. Using a queer lens when operating from a Gottman approach allows me to utilize this evidence-based tool and expel any heteronormative aspects. Being a culturally humble and competent therapist means remaining accountable to my client’s experience and being flexible in my modalities to suit their healing.

TLDR; I’m committed to breaking down the barriers that have limited your growth by allowing our time together to be led by you!
